Fully Sassy at Semi-Formal

3 Dec

Thursday night was my sorority’s semi-formal. This is an excuse for all of use to neglect homework, dress up in super modest dresses, and act like we are all 21. My night did not start out like I had planned, which ultimately resulted in my super sassiness and acting like I owned the place. Sometimes a girl needs a night like that.

The night ended with my refusing to let anyone else play cab karaoke as I proceeded to belt out Bills, Bills, Bills and Baby One More TIme. Your welcome for the cheap entertainment. Classy as always.

Dress: Urban Oufitters via art fair sale; Heels: Steve Madden

Forecast: Blizzard

29 Nov

Tonight’s forecast warns us of a 70% chance of “snow flurries” and possibly 7-9 inches of snow. Instead of crossing my fingers and wishing for a snow day, these don’t exist in college, I am forced to don lots of layers and throw on 3 pairs of socks inside my snow boots. The cold weather has inspired me to dust of my fur vest, faux of course, and become a snow bunny this weekend. I love the Ann Taylor LOFT vest I received last year because it can be easily dressed down or up.  Throw it over a pair of jeans, pair it with some combat boots and you are good to mall hop, class hop, and wherever else you might hop. Need a night transition? Pair a vest with a tight dress or skirt and throw on some heels. Done and done.

No Spanx Please

28 Nov

Saturday night my parents bought the whole family tickets to see Sister’s Christmas Catechism, a comedy act that highlights good ole’ Catholic upbringing (i.e. rolling up the plaid uniform skirts…guilty). Finding an outfit for this activity was a tough one because  a.) I wanted to be somewhat modest, and b.) I had been growing a food baby since Thanksgiving. Buttoning the jeans was an issue, although I am not complaining. The sweet potato casserole and mounds of stuffing were completely worth it.

I decided to throw on whatever sweater I had on hand that was “forgiving” i.e. did not require me to drive to the current Target hell-hole and buy spanx. The end result- a nearly all black outfit with killer booties that were just as killer on the tootsies.

Oh hey girl, I was feeling sultry..what?

Greek Gala

20 Nov

Every year greek life holds “Greek Gala” to honor the sororities and fraternities that excel in leadership, philanthropy, and morale. So obviously we all dressed up, snapped ridiculous amounts of pictures, and we also  took home two awards, Recruitment and Finance. This is the first weekend in a long time that I have successfully showered and made myself pretty at least twice. On a roll. Now it’s back to perfume showers and brushing my teeth with gum. If I can make it through Tuesday night I am golden.

VIM Launch Party

18 Nov

VIM Magazine had its fall issue launch party last night and it was nothing short of amazing. I am new to the staff so I was unbelievably pumped to attend the launch and get my networking on. I sort of felt glamorous; it may have been the step and repeat or that fact that it wasn’t held in a super dingy bar..but who really knows. What I do know for sure is that my Mariah Carey-esque feeling quickly faded when I was caught trying to rub the under 21 “x’s” off my hands only to be yelled at by a tiny woman with a big attitude. My bad…I just didn’t want to ruin my bomb outfit with heinous permanent maker.

On the bright side the party was super fun and I am pretty sure there are some amazing pictures in front of the VIM backdrop. I will make sure to post them as soon as they are available!

Look at that pout.

Dress: Rococo’s Closet, boutique in Northville Mi;

Cheesing..clearly really excited for the launch party.

Feminine Tough

15 Nov

One of this season’s top trends it mixing lace and leather together. A little sexy and a dash of sweet. Adding feminine details to an otherwise harsh fabric keeps you from looking too much like a costume and/or a dominatrix. I am loving this look and thought the red studs and the mustard blazer added just the right amount of color.

This is my first time using Polyvore for fashion post so please bear with me!Lace/Leather

My New Man Boots

11 Nov

I was home for the night so that I could get snow tires put on my car. I could not have made the appointment at a better time because Michigan decided to throw a half hail/half snow blurry my entire ride home which ultimately caused my car to start dangerously sliding on the highway.

Anyway when I walked into my room I found new shoes via Mom. Yay! I have been really into the military/menswear trend lately because a.) It doesn’t require a lot of planning and b.) It makes me feel edgy. I am not edgy at all, so these boots make me feel extra special.

They are perfect.

Revamp Your Wardrobe For Fall

31 Oct

If you are poor, like me, you want reuse every article of clothing you own to create different looks. I would love to drop a couple hundred dollars and go fall wardrobe shopping, however my budget just won’t allow that. The best way to save money while still managing to look somewhat cute is to closet shop with what you already own. Search online for inspiration, I use FabSugar, Pinterest, and numerous blogs. (Favorite’s page will be coming soon!) Mix and match different patterns and fabrics, and if you are feeling super crazy, dive into your mom’s/friend’s closets and pick an item you wouldn’t normally wear. You might be surprised.

A reader asked me to take this summer dress, and re-vamp it for fall. I am in serious need of cold weather looks, so I was more than ready to take on this challenge.

Hunter Green Corduroy Jacket: Vintage pull from Mom’s closet;

White Sweater: Express; Dress: Urban Outfitters; Braided Belt: Penney’s

Mirror Pics

23 Oct

I am so disgusted with myself. This week I channeled Nicole circa 2005 and took a few MySpace mirror pictures. Notice the closed mouth, half-smile that I’m sporting. At least I didn’t fully commit and decide to snap a kissy face picture or throw up a peace sign. It could have been worse.

I hate myself.

And then I took another one; because one mirror pic is never enough.

Sweater: The Loft

Tank: Forever21

Ribbed Leggings: Marshalls

Belt: H&M

Necklace: gift from a friend

Brown Suede Ankle Boots: Steve Madden via DSW

Do you sneak a mirror pic in every now and then? Do you still have a MySpace?

Bank vs. Budget: Real Life Edition

20 Oct

Every now and then God decides to throw a bone my way and I find the most perfect pair of shoes in the world (or for the week and then I get bored.) I had been eyeing expensive pairs of tan suede booties for weeks, and although I would cut off my left arm to snag a pair, I’m not even sure that would cover the cost. Thanks to Forever21 I can keep both of my arms and not be completely broke.

BCBGMAXAZRIA High Heel Gore Leather Bootie- $325

Forever21 Suedette High Heel Ankle Boots- $27.80

I bought them for $22.80…steal. I’m breaking out these babies tonight during my sorority date party. We are going bowling so I’m not entirely sure booties is the best idea, but it will make for some great pictures. That is what’s really important..right?

Have you ever found the perfect look-a-like to an expensive obsession?
