No Spanx Please

28 Nov

Saturday night my parents bought the whole family tickets to see Sister’s Christmas Catechism, a comedy act that highlights good ole’ Catholic upbringing (i.e. rolling up the plaid uniform skirts…guilty). Finding an outfit for this activity was a tough one because  a.) I wanted to be somewhat modest, and b.) I had been growing a food baby since Thanksgiving. Buttoning the jeans was an issue, although I am not complaining. The sweet potato casserole and mounds of stuffing were completely worth it.

I decided to throw on whatever sweater I had on hand that was “forgiving” i.e. did not require me to drive to the current Target hell-hole and buy spanx. The end result- a nearly all black outfit with killer booties that were just as killer on the tootsies.

Oh hey girl, I was feeling sultry..what?

Sweater: H&M; Jeans: The Loft;

VIM Launch Party

18 Nov

VIM Magazine had its fall issue launch party last night and it was nothing short of amazing. I am new to the staff so I was unbelievably pumped to attend the launch and get my networking on. I sort of felt glamorous; it may have been the step and repeat or that fact that it wasn’t held in a super dingy bar..but who really knows. What I do know for sure is that my Mariah Carey-esque feeling quickly faded when I was caught trying to rub the under 21 “x’s” off my hands only to be yelled at by a tiny woman with a big attitude. My bad…I just didn’t want to ruin my bomb outfit with heinous permanent maker.

On the bright side the party was super fun and I am pretty sure there are some amazing pictures in front of the VIM backdrop. I will make sure to post them as soon as they are available!

Look at that pout.

Dress: Rococo’s Closet, boutique in Northville Mi;

Shoes: Aldo via closet pilfering (Currie’s)

Dana's blue suede shoes.

Cheesing..clearly really excited for the launch party.

Revamp Your Wardrobe For Fall

31 Oct

If you are poor, like me, you want reuse every article of clothing you own to create different looks. I would love to drop a couple hundred dollars and go fall wardrobe shopping, however my budget just won’t allow that. The best way to save money while still managing to look somewhat cute is to closet shop with what you already own. Search online for inspiration, I use FabSugar, Pinterest, and numerous blogs. (Favorite’s page will be coming soon!) Mix and match different patterns and fabrics, and if you are feeling super crazy, dive into your mom’s/friend’s closets and pick an item you wouldn’t normally wear. You might be surprised.

A reader asked me to take this summer dress, and re-vamp it for fall. I am in serious need of cold weather looks, so I was more than ready to take on this challenge.

Hunter Green Corduroy Jacket: Vintage pull from Mom’s closet;

White Sweater: Express; Dress: Urban Outfitters; Braided Belt: Penney’s

Leggings: Marshalls; Socks: Mom’s Closet; Boots: DSW again via Mom

Would you turn a summer dress into a fall outfit?

80’s in October: Pure Michigan

9 Oct

It’s October. I am supposed to be looking forward to chilly weather, pumpkin overload and super slutty modest Halloween costumes. Instead I am spending my time scrounging around in my closet looking for anything that won’t make me sweat like a man. All my shorts, tanks, and teeny-tiny articles I like to call dresses are all at home because I was under the assumption that October would be cold. It has been in the 80s for the last three days, and I am running out of options.

Slouchy T-Shirt: Urban Outfitters

Skirt: Topshop, via Dublin

Belt: American Eagle (living in the back of my closet since the 8th grade)

Necklace: Forever21

Flats: Steve Madden, via DSW

Crossbody Bag: BCBG, via Max

I promise that this picture is semi-candid…emphasis on semi.

Do you like this warm weather or do you actually want it to feel like fall?
